Mailboxes

Character mailboxes are per-character Discord threads listed in one index. Members click a name to open that character’s message box.

Quick start — dashboard

  1. Open StageHand dashboard → Mailboxes (World Setup).
  2. Optionally save starter blurbs (named first-post text for new character threads). Select a saved preset to edit it.
  3. New mailbox index — pick a forum or text channel, set the listing header, optional letter/list emotes, and which starter blurb to use (Default, a saved preset, or Custom).
  4. Save. StageHand posts or refreshes the listing in Discord.
  5. Members add boxes in Discord with /mailbox add.

Untracking an index in the dashboard removes it from StageHand’s tracking. Character threads stay in Discord.

Starter blurbs

The first post in a new mailbox thread can be:

  • Default — 📬 Direct message box for this character.
  • A saved preset — named text from the dashboard library (or autocomplete on /mailbox set channel, /mailbox add, and the add-mailbox button).
  • Custom — type text for that index without saving a preset first.

Changing a preset updates new mailbox threads that still point at that preset. Existing first posts are left as they are. Select a saved preset in the dashboard to edit its name or text.

On /mailbox add and the add-mailbox button, optional starter blurb sets first-post text for that mailbox only. Pick Index default (the index starter), Default, or a saved preset; you can also type custom text. Leave it empty / Index default to use the index starter.

Discord commands

  • /mailbox set channel — Create or set the mailbox index and starter blurb (forum or text channel). Optional header image, thread title (forum), letter prefix, list emote, and starter blurb.
  • /mailbox add — Add a mailbox for a character. Optional blurb is Default, a saved preset, or custom first-post text for that mailbox.
  • /mailbox remove — Remove a character mailbox, or untrack the index.
  • /mailbox button — Post a button that lets users add their own mailbox. The form includes the same starter-blurb options as /mailbox add.
  • /mailbox purge_user — Remove every mailbox a member created.
  • /mailbox repost — Recreate index messages from the saved listing.

Character add and remove stay in Discord. The dashboard is for the index itself: channel, header, image, and starter blurbs.
