Dice Features

Dice features

StageHand features an entire dice suite that covers basic dice uses for most servers. For tabletop systems that require complex dice logic, it might be worth using a bot tailor-made for that system, but for basic dice sets, StageHand has all you need!

See the glossary for terms like post, thread, and admin. Support: https://discord.gg/nd6FUaBpaV

Dice sets and dashboard (recommended first step)

Before using most dice features, create dice sets (images per die face) and presets (button groups). The StageHand dashboard → Dice is the easiest place to upload art and manage presets. Upload sets on the Dice sets tab, build Presets there, then use Config to set a server-wide results channel if you want rolls posted to one place.

On each dice set you can optionally set face weights (how often each numeric face is rolled). Use a preset — Fair, Bell curve, Favor low, or Favor high — or switch to Custom to set each face manually. Weights of 1 on every face behave like a fair die. Weights apply to preset buttons and /r rolls that use that set.

Dice setup — /dice setup

Before using most of the dice features, you will want to create dice presets for use in your server. Run /dice setup (admin only). You’ll see an ephemeral Dice Preset Management panel.

  • Create New Preset — Start here! This creates a preset from scratch. Enter a name, then use the editor below.
  • Add Button — Adds one roll button to the preset you’re editing. You’ll set the button label, dice notation (e.g. d20, 2d6+3), optional modifier, optional custom outcomes (JSON map of results to text), and result format (embed with images, medium embed, or simple text).
  • Set Description — Short description stored on the preset.
  • Set Embed Color — Color used on embed results for this preset.
  • Set Channel Override — Optional: send this preset’s results to a specific channel instead of the server default.
  • Save Preset — Writes your changes.
  • Edit Preset — Change an existing preset (same editor as above).
  • Delete Preset — Removes the preset from configuration (does not delete messages already posted in channels).

WARNING

/dice setup manages presets, not dice sets. If /dice post preset says no dice sets exist, upload sets in the dashboard first.

Posting dice buttons

After presets and sets exist:

/dice post preset (admin only)

Posts a persistent button message members can click to roll.

  • Pick channel (optional; defaults to the current channel or thread).
  • Step 1: Select a dice set.
  • Step 2: Select a preset and confirm.

/dice post adhoc (admin only)

Posts buttons without saving a preset—useful for one-off events.

/dice post automation (admin only)

Creates a Start button that opens a modal and can create a forum post with a dice preset inside.

Results channel — /dice set_channel

Sets the channel where dice results are posted for the server. Same setting as Dice → Config in the dashboard.

Quick rolls — /r (all users)

/r works in servers and DMs. Examples: d20, 2d6+3, 1d20 1d4 2d6. Optional modifier applies to all dice in a multi-roll when you don’t embed modifiers in the string.

Weighted rolls (optional)

For numeric dice only, append a weight suffix to override fair odds for that roll:

  • d6[w:1,2,2,3] — face 2 is twice as likely as face 1; face 3 is three times as likely.
  • Weights are comma-separated in face order (face 1, face 2, …).
  • Dashboard face weights on a dice set apply when no inline suffix is present.
  • Inline [w:…] on a roll overrides the set’s table for that die only.

Uniform weights (all the same number) roll fair, same as omitting weights.

MultiMuse integration

NOTE

MultiMuse With MultiMuse on the server, button rolls can offer a muse picker so rolls are tied to a character. Server presets can sync to MultiMuse for per-muse dice when the host has API integration configured. Members manage personal dice in the user dashboard; use /dice clear_personal_dice to clear personal sets (works in DMs). Legacy /dice upload_personal_dice and /dice upload_dice_set are deprecated—use the dashboard instead.

Dice challenges — /challenge

Tracks challenge win/loss records (often used with character forums).

  • /challenge set_channel — Channel where the Finish Dice Challenge button is posted.
  • /challenge configure_message — Format of challenge result messages.
  • /challenge view — View a character’s record.
  • /challenge adjust / /challenge reset — Staff tools.

Members click Finish Dice Challenge after a scene to log results.

Backup, migration, and maintenance

  • /export dice / /import dice — Backup or restore preset JSON.
  • /dice repost_buttons — After bot migration, repost stored button messages.
  • /dice restore_buttons — Re-register button views if clicks stopped working.
  • /dice button_status — See tracked button messages.
  • /dice toggle_setup_messages — Less ephemeral spam during long setup wizards.
  • /dice cleanup_orphaned_buttons — Owner only; remove configs for deleted messages.

Right-click Refresh on a bot-owned dice message to reload from dashboard/preset data.
